The Harsh Truth about Automation & Hiring “Leverage”

artificial intelligence social media strategy Mar 17, 2025

"A wise man once said,
'Not everything that glitters is gold...'"

And it couldn't be more true today.

Automated Newsletters. Is it Worth it?

I was talking to one of the guys in my mastermind. He was telling me about this one company who promised to create and send out newsletters.

How it works is, you're asked a couple questions about what the newsletter should include. Then in seconds it generates it for you.

To the average person, this sounds like a miracle—especially since most of us struggle to stay consistent with our newsletters.

But Craig knew that all they were doing was entering a prompt into their system. He could do the exact same thing with ChatGPT and not pay a penny.

The Lesson for Today

Now here's the lesson for today: As AI continues to evolve, you're going to get more and more companies promising you AI automation—automate your email, social media, lead follow up, etc. Most of them are just white-labeling these big AI companies like ChatGPT.

White-labeling is kinda like...

Let's say you wanted pizza. I sell you a pie from my pizza company "john's Pizza".

What you don't know is that I just bought the pizza from another pizzeria and slapped my logo on the box. But you can't tell the difference because you didn't see how the pizza was made.

When you start to understand AI, like Craig, you'll be able to see through all the b.s most of these companies are pitching you.

Most of these "budget-friendly" marketing agencies really suck.

The Reality of Marketing Agencies

Indeed shows that the average salary for a social media manager is between $39K and $97K. Let's round allllllll the way down and say $30K. $30K divided by 12 months is $2500 a month.

Pardon my French but what the hell is a marketing agency, charging a couple hundred bucks a month, going to do for you?? They can't even afford to hire.

And even if they hire overseas, their profit margins are so thin that one bad month would put 'em out of business.

A Misconception About Leverage

I think a big misconception that I hear from people who want leverage is that 80% done by someone else is better than 100% done by you. The quote itself I agree with, but the stuff these marketing agencies are selling you is bottom of the barrel—nowhere near worthy of being "80% done."

Final Thoughts

So to reiterate my original point... Not everything that glitters is gold!

Next time you're getting pitched some marketing services, talk to someone who actually understands marketing first. Could be me, could be someone else—doesn't matter, just ask. Your pockets and your business will thank you.
