Top 3 Social Media Mistakes To Avoid in 2025
Mar 03, 2025Here are the top 3 things you should NEVER do if you're looking to get more engagement on social media. Let me know if you're guilty of any.
1. Introducing Yourself to Start Your Video
This first one is the most common mistake across everyone. It's introducing yourself to start your video.
I'm not sure who on earth told people that this was acceptable.
But do everyone a favor and STOP. Just get right to the value—it'll cut off at least 5 seconds.
2. Paying for Generic Infographics
This second one honestly doesn't make sense to me.
It's paying for services like Keeping Current Matters.
I genuinely don't understand how they scaled so big.
I never met anyone who has gotten a lead from a generic infographic, especially when it's posted on your Facebook business page.
So do yourself a favor: look at your page and ask yourself, if you were a stranger...
Would your content make you want to work with you?
If the answer is no,
STOP paying the $49 or $150 a month or whatever they charge nowadays.
3. Posting Irrelevant Content
STOP posting content that only real estate agents understand or care about.
So many people get into this industry and it consumes their entire personality.
For example, during the Super Bowl, this one photo showed the average home price in Philly vs. Kansas City.
I promise you, no one in the entire planet was thinking about home prices.
We were all wondering if KC would make a comeback, or thinking about the halftime performance, or which commercial was the best so far.
Before you post something, ask yourself:
"If I wasn't an agent or affiliated to real estate somehow, would I care about anything I'm saying here? Would I understand?"
If no, then why are you posting it?
If you stop making these 3 mistakes, I promise you will get more engagement.
What Should You Do Instead?
Now where do you go from here? Focus on creating video content instead of generic infographics.
If you struggle coming up with what to say or what to talk about on camera, here are 3 simple steps to follow:
1. Copy and Paste This Prompt into ChatGPT
Imagine you are a social media influencer with millions of followers. I just hired you to help me get to my first million followers by posting entertaining, educational short-form videos that are under a minute long.
Negative Hook → Alternative Option(s) → Promise → Solution(s) → Call to Action
Negative Hook: Grab their attention with a bold negative statement; people will always listen when they feel like they're doing something wrong. It’s your time to create your villain.
Example: Squats are the most dangerous exercise; you NEED to stay away from them.Alternative Option(s): Now play hero, give them an alternative to the horrible negative, and preferably 3 alternatives.
Example: Instead, here are 3 exercises you can do on leg day.Promise: Give them a drastic and visual result to look forward to.
Example: To get tree trunks for legs.Solution(s): Provide 3 valuable alternatives to your solution.
Example: First, try the Romanian Deadlift—it will absolutely murder your hamstrings. Second, use the leg extension, keeping it slow and controlled (pause for 1 second at the top if you don't want to walk tomorrow). Third, finish with some bodyweight lunges until failure.Call-to-Action: Add engagement bait—ask for a like, save, share, or comment.
Example: Make sure to save this post to keep this workout đ„
2. Give ChatGPT a Topic
Copy and paste its response into a teleprompter and record your videos.
